Lavender and Peppermint Foot Soak Recipe

It’s that time of year again where we hit the shops looking for small and generic Christmas gifts for acquaintances, secret santas, teachers…. the list can often seem endless!

Before you buy another dust-gathering knick knack, set aside an hour or two on the weekend and make up some homemade gifts instead! Salt Soaks are easy to make, affordable, and easy to ‘bling’ up for gifts.

Let’s get started with this basic Foot Soak.

DIY Lavendar & Peppermint Foot Soak

You will need:

Large Bowl
Wooden Spoon
2 Cups of Epsom Salts
1/2 Cup Baking Soda
Lavender Essential Oil
Peppermint Essential Oil
Large Glass Jar
Dried Lavender (optional)
Decorations (optional)

To make:

In the large bowl, combine the Epsom salts with baking soda, then add 3-4 drops each of the lime and peppermint oils. Add some dried lavender if you desire.

Pour or scoop the mixture into the glass jar and secure the lid tightly.

Decorate your gift:

Decorate the jar as desired with ribbons, stickers, fabric, etc. Include a tag or a small card with your gift to tell the recipient what it is (especially what oils it contains as someone may be sensitive to these) and how to use.

To use:

Fill a large deep tub or foot spa with warm water – making sure it’s not too hot that it burns your feet, or too full that it overflows when you place your feet in!

To the water add 1-2 tablespoons of the Lavender and Peppermint Foot Soak, and stir to dissolve.

Sit back and relax while you soak your feet for up to 30 minutes, before rinsing and gently drying your feet.

Extra notes:

The salt mix you’ve created should last a couple of months depending on how airtight your glass jar is, but it’s best to use it as soon as possible.

The combination of Epsom salts and baking soda creates a relaxing soak that soothes aches, eliminates odours, and softens dead skin – great for those stubborn calluses or cracked heels!

The two oils chosen in this particular mix creates a calming yet energising foot soak experience! The menthol of the peppermint induces a cooling sensation, and can help ease tension headaches and other muscular aches & pains. Lavender oil is well known for it’s relaxation effects and this instance will help soothe your whole body.

Experiment with different oils and adjust the ratio as desired. Essential Oils can be purchased in many different places both in-store and online.

Rather than one large glass jar, put a smaller amount of salts in a decorated glass test tube (can be found at most discount variety or craft stores). Put one with some other items along the same theme to create a beautiful pamper hamper!
